Quality Improvement Medical Advisor

Dr. Dick Abbott currently serves as the quality improvement medical advisor at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, Washington. His role includes acting as a liaison between hospital initiatives and physicians on the medical staff. He works with many different teams to improve patient care delivery. He is also the chair of the Medical Staff Peer Review Committee, the Quality Committee, and the Institutional Review Board Committee.

Dick attended undergrad at Gonzaga University. He attended medical school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, followed by a family practice residency in San Bernardino, California. He moved to Mount Vernon, Washington, in 1984 and moved out of clinical family medicine after 25 years of practice at North Cascade Family Physicians. For the last seven years, he has been working half-time in the Quality Department at Skagit Valley Hospital. He is board certified in family practice and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

In June of 2010 he added the new job of regional dean for the PNWU-COM students based at Skagit Valley Hospital. He considers this a very rewarding endeavor.
