Julie Merriam, DO

Portland, OR

Julie Merriam, DO, currently serves as the Portland regional dean for Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is also the director of medical education and family medicine residency director of the Puyallup Takopid Family Medicine Residency, Puyallup Tribal Health Authority in Tacoma, Washington.

Dr. Merriam attended Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio) and earned a BA in chemistry. From there she received her DO degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (Erie, Pennsylvania), and completed her general rotating internship and residency in family medicine at St. John West Shore Hospital (Westlake, Ohio). She was co-chief resident in family medicine during her senior year.

After residency, Dr. Merriam started her own office in Brunswick, Ohio, where she practiced family medicine for over five years. She has experience in office-based family practice with continuity of care in hospitals and long-term care facilities, as well as urgent care practice. She was an active member of the community and the chamber of commerce and served as its vice-chair and chair during that time. She left her practice to her then partner and is proud that it is still thriving today.

Her next adventure took her to the Pacific Northwest where she spent over two years working with the Klamath Tribes as medical director of their health and wellness center in Chiloquin, Oregon. She fell in love with the mountains of the Northwest and met her husband while living in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Today they live in Vancouver, Washington, with their dogs and cats.
